Meet the Team

Dr Nally has been a GP Partner at Wansford for 30 years relinquishing this role on September 2024. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and was a GP Trainer for 22 years . She worked for many years as the Older Peoples Lead for Cambridgeshire Clinical Commissioning Group, introducing Multidisciplinary Team Working between Primary , Secondary Care , Community Services and Third Sector Organisations.

During her time at Wansford she has seen the Practice double in size to 10,500 patients. She has been an instrumental part of bringing a Pharmacy and a Primary Care Research Unit to the Health Campus. Her Research Experience spans many years as a Sub – Investigator, accelerating with the Novovax Trial in 2020 during what was a Global Public Health emergency. She was part of the Research Team that was awarded the Royal College of General Practitioners Research Practice of the Year in 2019 and has since worked as a Principal Investigator on many studies in the areas of Infectious Disease, Covid Treatments, Urinary Tract Infection Cancer Screening and  Atrial Fibrillation.   She has mentored a Greenshoots Doctor to become a Research Active Sub – Investigator and recently an Associate Principal Investigator within the Wansford Team to become Royal College of General Practitioners First -5 Research Doctor 2024.

She has worked as Research Lead for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care Board since 2021 and become an active member of the Vaccine Innovation Forum.

She is a Director of the Research Team at Wansford and via the Clinical Research Network has developed a Hub and Spoke Model with 3 other Central Peterborough Practices. This increases the patient list size accessible for Research from the Wansford Site to circa 80,000 patients , increasing not only numbers of possible participants but also accessing a much broader culturally diverse population with the Peterborough Practices serving more than 100 different language groups.

She is a Director of Greater Peterborough Network of GP Practices – the Primary Care Federation across Peterborough which is increasingly becoming a provider of services for Primary Care at Scale for example Virtual Ward and Call Before U Convey ( CB4UC)  ( Reducing Ambulance Conveyances and Hospital Admissions) . Until recently she was a Board member of South Peterborough Primary Care Network ( PCN) where she remains the Clinical Lead.

Since relinquishing her General Practice Role her career has become increasingly Research focused.

Dr Eastwood is Senior GP Partner at Wansford Surgery, leading a team of Salaried GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists and Research staff across the Health Campus.

She is a board member of South Peterborough Primary Care Network working to deliver services and projects across four South Peterborough Practices, and is GP Locality Lead for Peterborough on the North Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Care Partnership. This Partnership sits within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICS (Integrated CareSystem) and works strategically to improve service transformation and collaborative working across the ICS, involving Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and Community and Voluntary sectors.

She has a passion for developing people and developing services and acts as Training Lead for the Practice, conducting and co-ordinating training for GP and ACP trainees and non-medical prescribers. She has an interest in MSK medicine and runs joint injection clinics.

She is a Director of the Research Team, and alongside Dr Nally has been involved in the strategic development and expansion of the Research Unit. She has been involved in vaccine trials as a Sub-Investigator since 2020 starting with the Novovax Trial during Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Matthew Davies qualified from St. Andrews and Manchester Medical schools in 1994. After spending 19 years in the Royal Air Force initially as a GP and then as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, I became an NHS Consultant at Northwest Anglia NHS Trust (NWAFT) until 2025 when I took up a full-time salaried GP and Research Investigator Role at Wansford.  I have been involved in Research delivery in the military, secondary and primary care as well as grant awarding for secondary care academic studies. I was Research Lead for Critical Care at NWAFT. I have been principal investigator on academic and commercial studies over that last 10 years covering disease areas such as vaccines, metabolic, critical care, infective disease, and perioperative participants.  

I deliver 5 research sessions a week and am the Clinical lead for research at PC-CRDC Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire. I have been awarded the NIHR Green shoots research award and the Research PI delivery award from Peterborough and North Cambridgeshire.

Outside of medicine I am a keen sailor and cyclist and passionate, armchair only now, rugby fan. 

Lorraine trained in the Royal Air Force as a nurse. After qualifying, specialised in Cardiology with an MSc in Advanced Practice.

She has worked in Peterborough and Papworth Hospitals as a Senior Manager running the respective Cardiology Departments, including setting up and overseeing the Cardiovascular Research Team.

On moving into primary care, Lorraine has been instrumental in establishing a robust Research Team capable of delivering complex clinical trials in a GP practice, specifically in Infectious Disease Vaccine Trials.

This team, under Lorraine’s guidance, have been recognised for their knowledge and skill set across the region and are often approached to guide other teams and sites across the region and beyond.

Sam started in the NHS in 1988 and has had a varied career in secondary, tertiary and primary care settings within general medicine, management and research.

Sam’s speciality is Rheumatology where she has worked as a Specialist Nurse and more recently managed a Rheumatology Research Unit in Cambridge. During this role her team achieved the NIHR Inclusive working award 2023 for an out-reach project on research accessibility for all.

As Sam is a Nurse Principle Investigator on academic studies, she has been able to work with cluster surgeries offering research to patients who have not had an opportunity to participate.

As a Senior Research Nurse she is involved with delivering commercial studies within Wansford.
